“I have always seen The Hat as an extension of one’s personality; protecting your thoughts flawlessly & enhancing your confidence to be your true self”, Tanja Savic, the designer

The Story: the idea of making hats turned into a reality through a sequence of events in early 2020. Surreal scenes of deserted streets and squares of London, usually packed with tourists and crowds of shoppers. Fear and wear on people’s faces, helplessness contagiously spreading from one to another faster than the virus itself! Endless questions, without one single answer making sense. Elsa Schiaparelli once famously said that “in difficult times, fashion is always outrageous”! Yet, in late March 2020, fashion almost vapoured away, with the last blow of early Spring breeze, rolling an empty plastic bag down a once pompous and glorious, and now eerily abandoned, London’s Pall Mall. The atmosphere mixed with personal moods, constant questioning, fears and doubts, led me to more intense study and research. We needed something to brighten up our day, something to give us our hope back. We needed more colour into this fallen and dull world, we had to learn to close our ears and start protecting our thoughts. We needed less sound and more music. And, now, as we know, not every sound makes music!

The Road: from the creation to the production, as tight and narrow as a bendy passage up the Hampstead Hill, It opened up into many wonderful collaborations with a variety of locally based artisans and suppliers, whom I never thought would be possible to meet! Communicating the product development quickly turned into enriching ingredients of personal stories and testimonies, with love and solidarity as priorities. Whether it be a chat over an alfresco pot of tea or a brief encounter with the local shop owner, or sharing ideas with the local aspiring jewellery maker, quietly musing or bursting with floods of mixed emotions. Locked down in our own individual struggles and desperation, or delivered, constantly renewing our minds in ever-rising hopes, forgiving and forgetting, each and every step of the journey brought another quality to the collection. And finally, accomplishing it’s given purpose, there was no better name to give this collection than ‘Crown on the Hill’. It was indeed the Crown - shining it’s bright and might, up right at the top of my beloved Hampstead Hill, reminding us of the power of love and joy. Encouraging our vision through creativity and talents, uniting our communities in care and respect for each other.

The hat is the most powerful proof of an elegant women. There’s no ‘how-to’ road map to wearing a hat with the style. It is all about our inner persona, graciously reflecting itself to the outside world, as an act of self expression, an attitude exposed, whilst simultaneously recognising lady’s sophisticated silhouette. Designed oversized intentionally, to the tiniest detail in mind, with rigorously thought proportions and balance, the Crown’s hat  brings a dash of a good taste and elegance to an occasion and literally every situation.
